the new year

So this is the new year. 2012. Possibly the last year any of us will experience. 
It's been a pretty busy year for me so far. On New Year's Eve I moved out of the dorms and into an awesome house near the bottom of campus. Then I threw a huge party. It was doooope.

My resolution this year is not to drink any alcohol. Ideally, I think it would be nice to wait until I turn 21 to drink. But we'll see. My friends are borderline alcoholics so it could prove to be difficult. I also want to cut out soda, as I do every year, as soon as I finish all the soda that's left from the party. I have 4-5 more cans of diet grapefruit soda I need to push through. :( They're so disgusting, but no one else in my house wants them and I don't want to pour them out since I paid for them and I'm extremely broke at the moment.

I started school this week. I changed my schedule (again) so I have 3 classes on Tuesdays and Thursdays and an online class. I'm down from 19 credits to 12 but I have a feeling the classes I'm taking are going to stress me out hard.

Paul and I are taking Evolution and Intro to Ethical Bullshit together. He loves our ethics class but I think it's a load of crap. There's this girl named Tschaun who has a question or a comment for every single thing our professor goes over. On the first day of class we were learning about how in an argument there should be premises and a conclusion. If the conclusion makes sense, you have to check that the premises are absolutely true. If you don't know what I'm talking about, here's an example:

    + All humans are mortals.
    + Socrates was a human.
    + Therefore, Socrates was a mortal.

It's so easy. I learned this kind of stuff when I was a freshman in high school. Yet this girl could not find a way to agree with our professor. The example he was going over in class had premises that could be challenged. But whenever someone made an argument against a premise, she had to "clarify" whatever the person just said. It's hard to explain. You'd have to be there. But BASICALLY, she's a pain in my ass and I hate the class.

I really really like my Human Origins class. The professor goes over really interesting material and doesn't drone on like some of my other professors. I'm interested in everything he has to say. I'm not sure how I feel about my Family Studies class. I didn't want to take it because I don't really care to learn about families, but if I want to major in Human Development (I'm still unsure), it's a required class. I'm retaking Evolution because I'm an idiot and never went to class last semester so I got a C. Plus Paul wanted to take it and I can't say no to him.

first week of school

I think my first week of school went pretty well. Here's my schedule, for stalking purposes.

My first French class made me want to poop my pants and die but I think it's going to be okay. Intro to Anthropology is borrrring, Evolution of Human Nature is boring, Anthropology of Humor is awesome, and my Psych teacher is a babe. So. Yeah.

Besides going to class, I don't recall doing much of anything else this week...

 Mitch and I spent a lot of nights watching movies. Chelsi and Michael stopped by during Avatar and a wrestling match broke out.

 Paul had a party in his apartment on Friday to pre-game for Crimson Nights. More wrestling.

Mitch's family invited me to join them at Lagoon on Saturday. Here's a view from the top of a giant ferris wheel they have at the park. 

I have to throw this up here because it's so freaking cute. Chelsi took us inside of an old school Mormon furniture building at Lagoon and forced me and Cass to stand in one of the windows.

That pretty much sums up my first week back to school. I took a much needed 5-hour nap today and then went for a 10pm run with Corinne and now I'm going back to reading The Evidence for Evolution by Alan R. Rogers and Jokes: Philosophical Thoughts on Joking Matters by Ted Cohen. À bientôt!

penis cake, yummmm!

We decided to take Trax down to Chili's for dinner on Saturday.. bad idea. We arrived at the stadium at the same time as 30 ambulances and police cars were pulling up. Apparently some frat guy was standing too close to the edge of the platform and fell underneath the train. You can click here to read an article about it. In the video one of the captions is "STUDENT HIT MY TRAIN." I thought it was funny. The typo, not what happened. Buuut yeah, it was an awkward situation. We were on the same side of Trax as the frat and their dates (it was their formal) and this one girl was soooo hysterical. She kept screaming, "OH MY FUCKING GODDDDDD!" and crying and making a ruckus. I did not approve. Showing emotions in public is for children. 

Corinne and I went for a hike today after we woke up. As we were walking somewhere above Sunnyside Ave., we stumbled upon the This Is The Place Heritage Park. There's a little village set up that's supposed to be just like the one the first Mormon pioneers created when they moved to Utah. It's pretty cute but was totally empty since its Sunday and Mormons aren't allowed to leave their homes or something to that effect. (I'm just kidding, Corinne, I love you). Anyway, there was a lady putting warm milk in old fashioned Coke bottles to feed to the baby sheep and she let me and Corinne help her feed them. Then she told us we could pick up the baby pigs if we could catch them. I totally caught both of them. I'm such a beast. They squealed bloody murder though so we didn't hold them for very long. 

Paul and I made dinner again tonight. I fixed fettuccine alfredo and he made shake-n-baked chicken and french fries.

Then I made a cake. All by myself because everyone else was too busy playing their dumb Monopoly game to help me.

Doesn't it look delicious? That's because it was. Mmmmm. I guess I can give some credit to Paul and Scott, who drew the penis. But don't believe Paul's lies when he claims he baked the cake. That was all me. I only let him draw a penis on the cake because my penis came out really squiggly and deformed..

Soooo yeah, that was the rest of my weekend. I guess I also signed up for classes for next semester.

I'm trying to figure out what classes I want to take next semester. So far my schedule is looking like this:

17 credit hours? I may be killing myself.. but it sounds fun to me. And it won't interfere with my work schedule except for the film class. But hopefully it won't matter if I'm a few minutes late to class each week.
