the girl with the dragon tattoo

I just got home from watching The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo. I haven't read the book but now I kind of want to even though Chelsi says it doesn't amount to anything until about 300 pages in. Have any of you read the book and then watched the movie? What are your thoughts about the American film adaptation? (There's also this Swedish version, if you didn't know).
The reason I'm blogging about it is because there was a part in the film that really struck me. At one point, Lisbeth (Rooney Mara) is handcuffed to a bed and then raped. Now, I've seen a lot of movies that have rape scenes in them. But I've never been impacted by a scene so much before. I straight up started crying when she took a shower afterward and revealed that her body was covered in bruises. All I could think about was my mom.
For those of you who don't know, my mom was raped by someone she knew in high school. That's how I came to be. I've never known my father and I have absolutely no desire to. My mother was raped by a guy she had dated once while his friends held her down. While Lisbeth was screaming and thrashing about trying to prevent this guy from raping her, all I could think was, "Is this how it was with my mom?" Did she really suffer through something so awful as this? The scene was so hard to watch and left me with an uneasy feeling in my stomach that I have even now, hours later.
I could go on, but I'm going to spare you guys. Don't let this prevent you from watching the movie, because it's definitely worth seeing. It just fucked with me a little more than the rest of the audience.

My back is absolutely killing me. I've been sitting on my floor for the last four hours doing stuff for my Intro to Music Theory class. Ever since Friday night when I started working at Royal Inn again my back has been fucked upppp. Eurgh.

Earlier this evening, I played the Sims 3 for about... 6 hours. Yeah. Six whole hours. Maybe more. Paul Kim went to Egypt for a week, his daughter Delia turned into a teenager, and his wife Cassie had a nervous breakdown from the amount of gardening I was making her do. Bwahahaha. 

so basically

Corinne and I have been quarreling all night. It all started when I told her that my farts smelled like the Subway sandwich we had for dinner. I threatened to fart on her side of the room, which resulted in her threatening to plug my butthole. And burn her at the stake. (This is Corinne now). And I think those are two very reasonable threats. Also, Sam is pooping now. Again. For, I think, the 3rd time today. God, that girl produces more poop than a freakin' cow. It's unheard of. It's like she's making up for all of the girls who claim they don't poop. Heads up guys: girls poop. A lot. Especially Sam. She also farts. A lot.

Sam again. FOR THE RECORD, I was not pooping. I did fart (audibly, multiple times), but I did not poop.

Moving on to a less disgusting subject.. My birthday was Friday and I had such a blast. I went to work and received birthday greetings from 40+ kids multiple times throughout the day, ate donuts and cookies, and spent 2 hours outside for recess. Then Dan, Bridget, Dan's friend Scott, Mitch, David, Paul Kim, Stuart, Corinne, Zack, Max, Bottom Joe and I went to Ichiban Sushi for dinner and it was pretty tasty, although quite expensive. After dinner, Stu and I watched Spiderman on HBO and called it a night...

Ahem... ;) I drove Stu, Paul Kim and David to Tooele on Saturday for a drumline competition Mitch's school was competing in. Then we went to Target and I bought a Flip SlideHD and two Sims 3 expansion/stuff packs. I then spent the rest of Saturday night and the majority of Sunday playing the Sims. It's such an addictive game. I had a ton of French homework due today plus an in-class composition but did I study or be productive? Of course not. I was too busy making my Sims get it on in the hot tub.

Also, I started reading a new book last night. It's called Linger by Maggie Stiefvater. For those of you who have been following my blog since the beginning, you may recall this post in which I gushed about how excited I was to get the book when it came out. Yeah.. not that pumped anymore. The main guy character is super whiny and is always writing shitty poetry and lyrics and the main girl character is always talking about how in love with the guy character she is. It's annoying. I'll probably finish it tomorrow at work so I can get back to my Sims. Ha.

i'm home!

The title says it all. I'm hoooome! I don't have to sit in a car for countless hours with my family anymore! YAY!

We got into town right after 11. The original arrival time was supposed to be 7, but we stopped for gas a couple times, along with food and shopping in Zona Rosa. I was angry that we hadn't stopped at a single Noodles whilst in Utah or Colorado, so we stopped in KC for that. Then we went to a Best Buy to try to find me an iPhone 4. Sadly, all of the Best Buys and AT&T stores around that area are either sold out or have some in stock that are reserved already. So I'm on multiple waiting lists and hoping that someone calls me soon. Oh, and the great news about my new iPhone? I don't have to pay for it! I asked my mom if she would get it for me, as a parting for college gift, and she agreed! How ridiculous is that. I had mentioned at an earlier time during vacation that I'd like a television for my dorm room and she was going to get that for me, too. But I told her a phone would do over the TV. If I really end up wanting one, I'll find a cheap one after I move to Salt Lake.

I've added two credit hours to my schedule for first semester, making me a full-time student. Here's the class Corinne and I have decided to take:

• ESSF 1015 - Cycling - Elem; TH, 7:30-8:20 am

Yeah, it's gonna be intense. Now that I'm back in Trenton, Rose and I are going to start running together at night. I want to be in better shape when I move to SLC and I'm hoping this will help. I just don't want to be panting and struggling for breath as soon as we start class, hahah. Speaking of struggling for breath...

Hahahaha. I saw this gif on tumblr and couldn't resist posting it on here. I'd love to credit someone because it's so ridiculously amazing and supermegafoxyawesomehot, but I couldn't find the source on tumblr. So, props to whoever made that shit. It's great.

I think I'm going to curl up in my bed (my bed! yes!) and read Eldest a bit more, then go to bed. Rose and I have plans in the morning to see each other for the first time since the day before I left for Kentucky.. at the end of June! UGH. We've been apart for so long. :( Anyway, goodnight everyone.

PS: My mommy bought me a fancy $40 case to store my laptop in while we were at a Best Buy tonight. The inside is seriously softer than any of my blankets. I want to shove myself inside it and live there forever.

The hotel we stayed at last night didn't offer wi-fi in the rooms.. only in select spots in the hotel. It was total shit, as was the town. We were in Rawlins, WY, and we went to four hotels before we finally found one with openings. On a Monday! In a nasty little town off the interstate! So here is my post for yesterday that I didn't get to post due to the hotel:

MONDAY, JULY 12
If I had any doubts about moving to Utah, they have all been removed. As soon as we got into the part of Wyoming where we could see hills and mountains, my heart swelled. They're so beautiful. I don't know how I'm going to be able to bear the next month in Missouri. We're staying in Rawlins, Wyoming tonight. We were in the car from 6 am to 10 pm (technically 11 by Missouri time). That's 17 hours in a car with my family. We were all aching when we took our little rest stops. Anyway, we're only 4 hours away from Salt Lake City! We're going to leave after breakfast in the morning and use the rest of the day to see whatever we can. I feel like I'm home; I love it. :)

Now onto my post for today.
We are in Salt Lake City and it is gorgeous. As soon as you enter Utah, you can tell. The scenery changes drastically. The "mountains" are no longer made of falling-rocks, but are covered in lush greenery and, in some cases, snow. All of the land is green and alive, no longer brown and dead looking. It's really pretty sweet. We got in around noon and our room was cleaned early, so we were able to get all of our stuff moved in early. Then we went to the Hogle Zoo and walked around for a good three hours, I believe. Nick passed out after we stopped to get Flavor Bursts, which were really quite good. I got a sunburn. Oh, and I talked to some girls who saw my livelavalive shirt and really dig Mitchell Davis. Then we circled our hotel's block multiple times while my grandma tried to find somewhere to eat, and again later in a different part of town when we were trying to find a Walmart. It was ridiculous. I kept shouting, "My friend says there's all kinds of food if you go to these streets!" and she would ignore me and get lost some more. Seriously, ridiculous. We ended up finding an IHOP that made my grandma sick to her stomach. Woo! Then we went to Walmart and bought windshield wiper blades for the car and sunglasses for my mom. And now we're back at the hotel. Everyone went to go try out the swimming pool and hot tub but I'm here blogging because I didn't bring a bathing suit. Supercool.

Orientation starts at 8:45 in the morning and I'm nervous. I'm going to be meeting one of my roommates for the time. And the whole thing doesn't get over until after 5. So I'm going to be spending a lot of time at the college with people I don't know and my family. I don't see it going too well, for some reason. haha. ;)

Anyway, I think I'm going to take a shower and start getting ready for bed.. even though it's only 8:15 pm. We don't have anything planned for the rest of the night so why should I keep all of this makeup on? Also, I'm sure I don't smell the greatest. I know I smell fine but it was in the 90s today and I was sweatin' balls while walking around the zoo

So, yes. Goodnight, whoever you are. I'm going to read Eldest and enjoy the hell out of it. :)

HAHAHAHAHAHAH. Our bathtub in this hotel room doesn't hold water. We called down to the front desk and asked if they could bring us some kind of stopper. Sooo this lady comes in and my mom's like "Yeah, sorry, we just need a stopper so I can bathe my infant" and the lady goes "Sorry 'bout tha'" EXACTLY like Hagrid in the first Harry Potter movie after he breaks down the shack's door. Oh my god, she said that and I busted up laughing and had to cover my mouth with both hands so they wouldn't be distracted by me. But it was so funny. Oh man. I wish you could have been here to witness it.

Yesterday I got Overheard in New York by S. Morgan Friedman and Michael Malice in the mail. I just finished it and I definitely plan on recommending it to everyone. It's hilarious. Below are some of the conversations I laughed at.

Stuff White People Like finally came in the mail! I started reading it tonight at work and it's hilarious! I lol'd many times on my break.. so much that I was probably freaking out the old guy in the booth next to mine. He kept turning around to give me questioning looks. I really like #9: Having Black Friends. Here's a little bit from that section:

Bahahaha. It just cracks me up. A lot. :) My only complaint about the book is my fault. I bought it used from Amazon and the edges are pretty torn up, plus the checklist in the back to find out how white you are has already been filled out twice. Oh well, I'll just put a key as to who wrote what. The previous owner was only 34% white. Hahaha.

Anyway, while I was buying things I didn't need off of Forever 21 I also bought a couple things off of Amazon. You may remember how I mentioned buying phone chargers, an N64 game, and a book on the 23rd? The chargers came within two days, the book's been shipped, but the game hasn't so apparently Amazon hasn't charged my debit card yet. Sweet. Well tonight I bought two more books, another car charger for my grandma, and a new AV cable for my N64 since I can't seem to find mine. The books are called The Hipster Handbook (by Robert Lanham) and Overheard in New York UPDATED: Conversations from the Streets, Stores, and Subways (by S. Morgan Friedman and Michael Malice). They both sound like they're going to be really good reads. I hope I'm not disappointed.

While we're on the subject on Amazon, I'd just like to throw in the fact that my boss's brother's wife looks like an Amazon. She's really tall and scary and intimidating. I hate when she calls to order for carry-out. I feel like she's going to come in and yell at me for something really minor when she picks up her pizzas.

I found something to be really excited about. The sequel to Shiver by Maggie Stiefvater, which is called Linger, comes out in July! I can't wait! I just finished Shiver again today but I'll probably read it again sometime in July since it's such a quickie. Plus it's a really good book. It's full of love, depressing moments, death, and other great things. ;) I loveeee it.
